About Nabadwip

Nabadwip Dham, also known simply as Nabadwip, is a famous pilgrimage site in West Bengal, India. It is best known as the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a 16th-century Vaishnava saint and social reformer.

Temples in Nabadwip

Nabadwip is home to numerous temples, including:

  • Sonar Gouranga Temple: A temple where visitors can offer prayers to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s sacred footwear.
  • Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math: A major attraction dedicated to Lord Chaitanya.
  • Radha Rani Temple: A popular temple symbolizing Goddess Radha’s love for Lord Krishna.
  • Dwadas Shib Mandir: Built in 1835, this temple is known for its exquisite floral designs.

Festivals and Attractions

  • Rass Festival: During this festival, the entire town is illuminated, and beautifully crafted deities are placed on every corner.
  • Bird Sanctuary: Nabadwip is also home to a bird sanctuary, making it a haven for nature lovers.

Located on the western bank of the Bhagirathi River, about 20 kilometers from Krishnagar, the name “Nabadwip” comes from the Bengali words naba (new) and dwipa (island).
